Q: What does “Nellicita” mean?
A: It means “little Nelly” – I was named after my Grandma Nelly. 🙂
My cartoon “Nellicita” was born a long time ago, when I was in school, struggling with fitting in. Nellicita has been reminding me of the many things that make life wonderful, even when things seem to be going wrong. Her world is full of “nice” things, cute things, happy things, things that make you smile. (Puppies, unicorns, and rainbows for all!!) She wants people to be happy, to understand each other enough to enjoy the differences, and spend time on the positive. No horror movies or slasher films for her – she’ll stick to the kids shows or cheesy movies where you know the outcome before you go in the theater. Throw in an occasional international drama or comedy with unexpected characters or outcomes for inspiration. Some people may consider her corny and naiive, but that’s ok, she doesn’t mind. 🙂
Q: What kind of creative work have you done?
A: I started with scissors and newspaper, I hear… Then moved up to pencils and paper. (Still remember drawing dark circles for noses.) After I had more control of my hands and was exposed to different arts, I have done everything from the simple string crochet to the complicated design, layout, and editing involved in a personal annual Engagement Calendar. See the Creative Works page for an expanded description of the range.
